Verona

- Romeo is always seen wandering the streets - the reader never encounters him at his house
- Romeo is thus part of the freedom-driven and masculine world
- Juliet remains part of the sheltered world her family has put her in
- this means that she is close to never allowed outside her family‘s house
- scenes revolving around Juliet take place inside, Romeo has to actively intrude Juliet‘s world in order to be with her (showing up at Capulet‘s party / balcony scene)
- church of Friar Laurence: represents a neutral space that unites both Romeo‘s and Juliet‘s worlds
Juliet is allowed to go there in order to confessing sins
it is also Romeo‘s place of confession

- Romeo hides there from Benvolio and Mercutio after the Capulet‘s party
