- readers recognize English landmarks such as Charing Cross Station (that is now Charing T Tower)
- train stations have been transformed into rocket launching towers
- another significant location is the Savage Reservation in New Mexico
- technologies of the World State have not been introduced
- the savages live what the reader would consider a normal life - enduring pain, giving birth, living monogamous
- former countries are united under the name of the "World State"
- institutions such as religion or art have been banned by the highly controlling World State
- people are grown in bottles and are genetically manipulated into fulfilling certain roles within the society
- every citizen is thus conditioned into being happy with their place in society
- members of the World State are categorized into castes, ranking from highly intelligent (Alpha) to stupid (Epsilon)
- citizens always have access to all pleasures such as sports, sex or entertainment
- if they feel something that is unpleasant, they are encouraged to take the drug soma that eliminates the negative emotion
