Please note that these solutions are only suggestions. There are various possibilities for argumentation.
- Here we are then.
- Let's talk about the digital revolution and how it has opened up an endless array of opportunities to collect and make use of data.
- Let's start with...
- On the one hand / on the other hand
- It must be considered
- In my opinion / I think, personally, ...
- I agree / I disagree
Possible introductions to the topic and the argumentations
- the quote "Those that have a voice have to speak for those of us who are silenced." stems from Mike Leach, an American football coach
- what Leach means by his quote is that the part of society that is no longer able to stand up for itself, either because of illness or old age, should give the sceptre to the youth so that they start making decisions
- what comes with giving young people more decision-making power is that they also behave more responsibly. We all know that when you get more responsibility, there is more pressure to deliver
- as a coach, Leach works a lot with young people and will himself already have gained the experience of how important a certain degree of autonomy is for young people to develop into mature adults
Introduction and comment on quote 1
- there are many ways to get younger members of the society empowered. One of them being getting them involved in decision-making
- a young person needs to feel that they can make a difference in this world with their voice. Involving youth representatives in sectors such as politics, culture and education gives them that voice
- probably one of the most important experiences in life to grow into a strong-willed and authentic adult is that you are allowed to make mistakes
- it's not the mistake that matters, but what you learn from it. Accordingly, it is important that young people are given the opportunity to have their say, be it at their own school or in a club or even in politics
Possible options on how to empower the youth
- the second quote "The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously." once said Hubert H. Humphrey, former vice president of the United States of America
- the former vice president's statement can either make clear how backward he thinks when he assumes that young people are pretended to be involved but left out when it comes to decision-making
- on the other hand, Humphrey's statement can also be interpreted in such a way that he means that one must first acquire a respketable psoition as an opinion bearer, which is also true in itself
Introduction and comment on quote 2
- in any case, it is inescapable that young as well as older generations have a right to be heard, to have an opinion and to decide
- every person, young or old, needs to feel significant and to feel like they make a difference
- it depends on the existing authorities not to feel attacked or replaced by younger leaders, but to learn how important it is to take the youth with you so that they do not turn against you in the end
- ways in which authorities could act so that the youth feels like they have a bigger impact on society than they do now: possibility of younger people occupying high positions, representatives for the younger generation in politics, who can see young people as role models, think more into the minds of young people when talking about the future and think about how to engage young people
Conclusion
