Please note that these solutions are only suggestions. There are various possibilities for argumentation.
- Here we are then.
- Let's talk about mankind's reaction to climate change and how to cope with the consequences
- Let's start with...
- On the one hand / on the other hand
- It must be considered
- In my opinion / I think, personally, ...
- I agree / I disagree
Possible introductions to the topic and the argumentations
- the goals of the university degree should be to prepare young people for their professional field of activity
- transfer of professional knowledge, skills, and methods
- a degree from a university forms the necessary basis for many professions (i.e. doctors, lawyers, or structural engineers)
Objectives of university education
Prüfungsteilnehmer A
- the university of Rotterdam offers the study program Bachelor of Circus Arts where students are trained in skills like acrobatics to juggling and aerials
- with regard to the actual goals of a university degree, it is questionable, however, whether this course actually prepares students sufficiently for the world of work
- to that matter of subject must two aspects be taken into consideration whereas they are two different points of view
- one cannot speak of this type of study preparing for what can be considered a traditional profession in the business world
- however, all types of studies are tailored to a certain type of work and if one is only in the field of the arts, it can be assumed that this course of studies provides the necessary knowledge and skills to enter an artistic profession and help to "develop your authentic and artistic identity"
Bachelor of Circus Arts
Prüfungsteilnehmer B
- the Cornell university offers a course for all students to learn how to climb trees
- with regard to the actual goals of a university degree, it is questionable, however, whether this course actually prepares students sufficiently for the world of work
- these kinds of skills are rather inadequate preparation for some kind of occupation in later life
- it can be assumed that the kind of job in which such skills are needed is so rare that a simple climbing course outside university facilities should suffice
- if you are already enrolled at Cornell, you should take advantage of the time to take truly necessary courses that will challenge you and move you forward
Cornell Outdoor Education's Tree Climbing
Prüfungsteilnehmer C
- the Lawrence university in Wisconsin offers a course for all students to study Harry Potter, about its relation to history, legend, and myth
- with regard to the actual goals of a university degree, it is questionable, however, whether this course actually prepares students sufficiently for the world of work
- it is undoubtedly very interesting to learn about the phenomenon of Harry Potter, make historical references, and explain political implications
- however, it is highly doubtful whether these studies are in any kind useful for student's future life
- this study fails to teach and prepare students for what is to come in their later work
- it can be considered a fun course indeed, however, should a course like this more likely be taken in one spare time and the possibility at a university
University course Thinking About Harry Potter
- after finishing high school one does not necessarily have to go to university
- a multitude of other paths pave the way for students to enter professional life even without attending university
- e.g. internships, apprenticeships, or volunteering
Alternative pathways
- in conclusion, there are many different routes into the world of work for school leavers, and university study is only one of them
- however, when going to university, students should use their time wisely, taking courses that will help them progress and make the most of their opportunities and help prepare for the world of work
Conclusion
